Police have exhumed the body parts of a trader allegedly murdered by a fetish priest at Awutu Bentum, now deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
The remains were recovered following community reports and conveyed to the Police Hospital Morgue.
Inspector Sandra Amarkye, holding brief at the Adabraka District Court, said the police were awaiting a pathologist’s report to assist investigations.
The accused, Xorlali Alortusah, 25, has been charged with murder and was remanded into lawful custody until April 16, 2026.
His plea has not been taken.
Prosecution said Alortusah, a fetish priest and herbalist at Awutu Bentum near Jei Krodua, allegedly caused the death of Joyce Akua Ampomaa, a 40‑year‑old trader residing at Akweitey, Kasoa.
The court heard that in 2025, the deceased sought herbal treatment from Alortusah for a leg problem.
On March 4, 2026, she again visited him for spiritual assistance for her business.
After consultation at about 1900 hours at Alortusah shrine, he asked her to accompany him to his farm to collect herbs.
The prosecution said while on their way, Alortusah allegedly attacked her from behind with a cutlass, causing her death.
He then dismembered the body and concealed it in the bush.
On March 10, 2026, community members discovered the remains near the Alortusah farm and reported the matter to the Police at Jei Krodua.
Police proceeded to the scene, recovered the body parts and conveyed them to the Police Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Investigations led to the arrest of the accused, who, according to the prosecution, admitted the offence during interrogation.
