Chairman of the Committee for Public Accountability (CPA), Collins Owusu Amankwah, has called on the government to immediately release the contract agreement between the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and McDan Aviation Handling Services Limited.
The request comes in the wake of GACL’s takeover of the private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport.
According to Mr. Amankwah, the circumstances surrounding the termination of the Fixed Base Operation agreement raise serious questions about transparency and legal compliance.
He stressed that the public is entitled to full disclosure of the terms governing the arrangement.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited recently ended its agreement with McDan Aviation, citing prolonged disputes over unpaid licence fees, rent, and royalties.
However, the CPA is now questioning the legal basis of the takeover and demanding clarity on whether due process was followed in ending the agreement and assuming control of the facility.
“What precedent does this set for private investors operating on government concessions? Did the Ghana Airports Company Limited obtain a court order before the eviction?
"Was the McDan Group given adequate notice as required by government procedures? Why were national security operatives involved in what is essentially a commercial tenancy dispute? What legal basis justifies the forceful takeover of this facility?” he asked.
The CPA is calling not only for the publication of the contract between the airport authority and McDan Aviation but also for a formal explanation from the Ministry of Transport.
The group is additionally demanding parliamentary oversight of the eviction exercise to ensure accountability.
Mr. Amankwah said the committee would continue to monitor the matter closely and pursue all lawful avenues to ensure administrative justice is upheld in Ghana.
