Management Consultant, Ato Conduah has criticized the Ishmael Yamson Committee's review of emoluments for the executive and legislature as nearly a waste of public funds. The Yamson Committee was instituted by President John Evans Atta Mills to review emoluments recommended by the Chinery-Hesse Committee. But critics say the review report released yesterday, July 21, 2009, has, if anything, complicated the controversy.Mr. Conduah told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoe the review failed to answer the nagging issues surrounding the ‘bastardised’ report.Whilst agreeing with aspects of the review, for instance the reduction in number of vehicles and houses for ex-presidents, he questioned the committee’s right to vary entitlements payable to ex-presidents without recourse to Parliament. He is not sure government will be able to issue a white paper on a review report that is unfinished and suggested the report should be referred to parliament for a second look. The IYC recommended that the President institute another committee to do a comprehensive report on the appropriate remuneration payable to Presidents, MPs and other Article 71 office holders, but Conduah said that will be another waste of resources. He rather suggested close collaboration between the government and parliament for a final solution.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
