Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, was briefly released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) before being instructed to report back for additional procedures.
His lawyer and former Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, confirmed that his client was freed on Wednesday and asked to return to EOCO the following morning, Thursday, for continuation of the process.
Mr Dame explained that Mr Aludiba, accompanied by his legal team, arrived at EOCO around 10 a.m. but was later informed that the Executive Director was unavailable, leading to an initial delay in proceedings.
He said the legal team remained present throughout and dismissed suggestions that any procedural delay was due to the absence of lawyers.
According to him, EOCO officials later indicated that Mr Aludiba was free to leave temporarily due to the continued unavailability of the Executive Director.
However, shortly after leaving the premises, the legal team received fresh instructions for him to return to EOCO to continue with further processes, after which they complied and resumed engagement with the authorities.
The development comes amid wider public debate over the Attorney-General’s decision to discontinue charges against Mr Aludiba and his wife in an ongoing criminal matter, following reports of new evidence emerging during investigations.
