A large demonstration held in Geneva ahead of the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, was marked by clashes with police, vandalism and the appearance of symbols associated with the Polisario Front.
The protest, organised against the G7 summit scheduled for June 15 to 17, brought together anti-capitalist groups, pro-Palestinian activists, left-wing organisations, anti-imperialist networks and other campaigners opposed to the meeting of world leaders.
Images circulating after the demonstration showed at least one Sahrawi flag associated with the Polisario Front among the protesters.
The march, which was authorised by Geneva authorities, began with a gathering at Parc Mon Repos and was expected to follow a designated route through Quai Wilson and Place des Nations.
However, the protest descended into violence as some demonstrators reportedly set a Tesla vehicle on fire, damaged shopfronts and targeted buildings linked to the United Nations.
Police responded by deploying tear gas to disperse crowds, according to international media reports.
The presence of the Polisario flag added another dimension to the demonstration, highlighting the participation of supporters of a range of international political causes.
While there has been no official confirmation that the Polisario Front organised or participated as a group, the images suggest that individuals sympathetic to the separatist movement were present during the protest.
The demonstration ultimately became a convergence point for multiple international movements. Alongside opposition to capitalism, global inequality and the policies of the G7 nations, protesters also drew attention to a range of other political causes, including support for the Polisario.
Observers say such appearances reflect a broader strategy by Polisario supporters to raise international awareness of their cause by participating in major transnational protest movements, particularly in Geneva, which hosts numerous international organisations and remains a key centre for global activism.
