The death toll from a violent confrontation between police officers and residents of Sefwi Sayerano in the Western North Region has risen to three.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, July 7, reportedly began when officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command went to the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler.

Initial reports indicated that two people died while two others sustained gunshot wounds after a confrontation broke out between the police and some residents who allegedly resisted the arrest.

However, an update from the community on Wednesday, July 8, confirmed that one of the injured victims had also died, increasing the number of fatalities to three.

"Early this morning, one was pronounced dead. So as I speak, the death toll has risen to three in Sefwi Sayerano," Adom News' Augustine Boah reported on Joy FM's Midday News.

The remaining injured victims are receiving treatment at a health facility, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service is yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the incident as investigations continue.
