Greater Accra: Police impound 1,054 vehicles over illegal sirens

The Ghana Police Service has intercepted 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region as part of an ongoing nationwide enforcement exercise targeting the unauthorised use of sirens, horns, strobe lights, beacon lights and improper vehicle modifications.

The exercise, which forms part of efforts to improve road safety and enforce compliance with the Road Traffic Regulations, has also resulted in the removal and seizure of unauthorised devices and modifications found on some vehicles.

The Police said drivers whose vehicles were found to be in breach of the regulations were educated on the relevant laws and advised to comply with the requirements governing vehicle use on Ghana’s roads.

The Service disclosed that a total of 4,627 vehicles have been intercepted nationwide since the enforcement exercise began on June 15, 2026.

The Police assured the public that the operation would continue across the country as part of measures to promote discipline among road users, enhance safety and ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations.
