Ghanaian spiritual teachers McMaine and McKenzie, known as the Mystic Twins, have appeared on Askia “The Boogeyman” Booker’s HORRORble Podcast.

The duo made a head-turning appearance on the podcast in an episode titled “Our Lives as African Spiritual Healers”. Released on 16 September 2026, the episode has ignited discussion across social media platforms and podcast channels for its candid exploration of West African mysticism, spiritual warfare and occult practices.

The duo, who say they hold 47 spiritual initiations across traditional lineages, sat down with former professional athlete turned podcaster Askia Booker to discuss practices that are frequently misunderstood or sensationalised in mainstream Western media.

Spiritual origins and church departure

Before transitioning to traditional West African medicine and spiritual pathworking, both McMaine and McKenzie served as Catholic altar boys preparing for priesthood. Their eventual pivot led them through 47 distinct traditional initiations across indigenous African lineages to build their spiritual authority and ancestral knowledge.

Mechanics of curses and biological tracking

The Mystic Twins said generational curses rarely function on spoken words alone. Instead, they explained that low-vibrational entities track family lineages by anchoring to physical biological material such as hair, blood, nails or sweat.

According to the brothers, a curse attached to an ancestor continues along genetic bloodlines until a targeted ritual cleansing severs the spiritual link.

Deconstructing Western metaphysical props

The brothers challenged popular Western metaphysical tools, arguing that relying on commercial props such as tarot cards, crystals or Ouija boards creates a false crutch and opens unmonitored spiritual portals.

They said authentic traditional practice centres on cultivating internal spiritual authority, mind-body alignment and direct ancestral connection rather than external, shop-bought objects.

The reality behind “selling your soul”

Addressing common pop-culture tropes, the twins clarified that, in their view, a person cannot literally sell or surrender ownership of their soul. Instead, they said dark or pact-based occult agreements exchange a person’s vital life force, inner peace and longevity for short-term earthly wealth, fame or influence.

Spiritual cleansing and household defence

The Mystic Twins said signs of spiritual infestation in a home often present as sudden temperature shifts, persistent exhaustion, nightmares and chaotic family disputes.

They added that young children are particularly vulnerable to negative entity attachments, making traditional botanical baths and consecrated elements essential for safeguarding a household’s energy.

During the interview, the brothers arrived with consecrated ancestral artefacts, including a horsehair wand ritualistically prepared over nine years and an ancestral staff.

They also challenged modern commercialised spirituality, arguing that many popular metaphysical trends rely on external props rather than true internal mastery.

Beyond supernatural topics, the conversation highlighted their humanitarian efforts in West Africa, such as settling hospital debts for impoverished mothers detained in Ghanaian medical facilities.

The episode’s blend of practical ethics, traditional African metaphysics and unfiltered dialogue on spiritual defence continues to drive engagement among listeners tuning in worldwide.
