Youth of the ruling National Democratic Congress in the Asuaogyaman District in the Eastern Region have threatened to remove staff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the district if they don’t vacate their posts by Monday. The group identified as The Aggressive Youth of NDC, have posted notices on the NHIS office buildings asking staff not to step foot on the compound. One NHIS staff member who spoke to Joy News on condition of anonymity said he and his colleagues are living in fear.“Our lives are at stake, we’re afraid because [when they are coming],” he told Joy News’ Benard Saibu. The youth group insist the NHIS staff were members of the New Patriotic Party appointed by the previous government.“They claim we the workers of the scheme came there on political appointments during Kufuor’s regime, therefore now that Kufuor and his NPP are no longer in power, they are giving us up to the close of day….to vacate the offices otherwise should they come and meet any of us in the office on Monday there would be a bloodshed,” a traumatized staff said. However the District Chief Executive for the area, Johnson Ehiakpor, says he’s been notified of the threats and is making efforts to resolve the matter, stressing: “We are still resolving the issue.”He was however not enthused that the workers reported the issue to the media, when authorities are taking action to bring closure to the issue.Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
