Breweries giant, Guinness Ghana says it has no plans of laying off workers despite the current economic situation coupled with the power crisis.
The unfavourable business conditions are forcing manufacturers to retrench staff. For instance, Coca Cola Ghana which is also in the beverage business last month laid off 98 workers and 113 more are expected to go home soon.
However Guinness Ghana says despite the present constraints it is poised to maintain staff.
"At present we are investing in our company, growing it even larger. That gives you indication that we have a lot of confidence in where the company is going," Corporate Relations Director, Preba Greenstreet told Joy Business.
That is not to say Guinness Ghana is not feeling the pinch of the worsening business conditions. But Greenstreet said Guinness Ghana has had to come up with innovative means of staying in business and satisfying the needs of the local market.
The company in January this year introduced "Orijin" a bitter sweet spirit made of herbs, fruits and alcohol. Orijin is available in 2 variants: Orijin Bitters and the Ready to Drink variant, which is the first of its kind in Ghana.
Guinness Ghana is known for producing and marketing some of the world's leading brands such as Guinness, Malta Guinness, Star, Alvaro, Johnnie Walker, Baileys, Smirnoff, Ruut Extra among others.
