The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party are preparing feverishly towards the Chirepone bye-election later this month.The NDC Thursday elected its candidate, Samuel Abdulai, for the election to replace the former Member of Parliament for the area, Doris Seidu who died last month.General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia told Joy News Mr Abdulai is by far the most popular candidate among those who contested for the slot.He said the candidate polled 117 out of a total of a hundred 132 ballots cast.Mr Asiedu Nketia said a team had been put in place to win the seat for the NDC which lost it narrowly to the late Mrs Seidu who won it for the NPP.The NPP says it is determined to retain the seat. The Youth Organiser of the party, John Boadu said six candidates are vying for the slot.The primary will be conducted Friday. He hopes a consensus candidate is elected.Candidates for the Chirepone bye-elections are expected to file their nomination by Tuesday, September 8, 2009.The polls are slated for September 29, 2009.Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
