Ghana’s fastest growing regional airline, Africa World Airlines (AWA), will start flights to the Takoradi in the Western Region on May 1, 2015.
Flights to the oil and gas city from Accra, according to the airline, is part of efforts to consolidate its leadership on the domestic routes.
The Takoradi will include two flights a day, three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with morning flights from Accra in the 7am window.
"Africa World will be offering a quick 25minutes travel time on any of its 3 Embraer new and modern ERJ 145LR jets to Takoradi and plans to return within the hour of 4pm to pick up travellers thereby providing either a seamless day trip or a two nights business trip option to its travellers", the airline announced.
Flights in and out of Takoradi will commence with a maiden flight on May Day and then subsequently every Monday Wednesday and Friday in the mornings and evenings.
Speaking on the journey of AWA so far with regards to its readiness to commence flights into Takoradi, Chief Operations Officer, Apiigy Afenu, confirmed that the airline has concluded relevant arrangements with the airforce, which include due diligence audits.
The Chief Executive Officer of Africa World Airlines Mr Cheng Luo said “the chance we have been waiting for has arrived, where we are able to satisfy not only the business, government and non-government travelling community of Ghana but also the people and indigenes of the western region looking for tourism and economic opportunities to network”.
Head of Commercial Sales, Revenue and Marketing for AWA Katherine Tosan Woode, announcing the Takoradi flights in Accra said she was excited about the one stop shop corporate packages available for the busy travel market into and out of Takoradi as well as the partnership travel agencies and hotels that have chosen to come on board with AWA.
Ticket sales starts on Monday April 20 and travel will begin in earnest from Monday 4th May after the May 1 maiden flight.
