After almost eight months of studying the performance of the John Atta Mills administration since it took over power from the New Patriotic Party, the 2008 flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has once again broken his silence, this time, calling on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to rise up to the task of meeting the needs of the ordinary Ghanaian and stop being garrulous.According to Nana Addo, the general population of Ghana is impatient for a truly better Ghana that ensures faster growth, job, security and a stronger income that is stronger than inflation. He noted that at this period of Ghana’s development Ghanaians were looking for a national economic programme wider than mere stabilization experimentation.Nana Addo said this in a speech he read to launch the “Thunder” newspaper in Kumasi over the weekend. The former Minister of Justice under the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor administration said Ghana had been over diagnosed for being too sick since the NDC took over and sent a message to the economic managers that “the patient, which is Ghana, is too impatient for cure. Pure and simple” as he put it.Nana Addo’s statement depicts how uncomfortable he is with the way the NDC is managing the country’s economy. This statement is similar to a recent one he made at his first post election press conference organized at the Ebenezer Presby Hall in Accra after the 2008 General elections. He was reported to have ordered the NDC and Professor Atta Mills to “FIX” the economy, after lamenting that the country’s economy was broke. To him, Ghana’s economy can do better if competent officials are employed and the mediocre ones are eliminated.Launching the Thunder newspaper, Nana Addo admonished Ghanaian journalist to be mindful of what they write and publish so as not to tarnish the hard–earned reputation of people, with baseless and fabricated stories. He called on the management of the paper to strive and highlight on issues that would help develop Ghana and her people, adding that “Your success will not be based on another’s downfall”.He encouraged the thunder newspaper to be bold on issues that would get the people elected as temporary custodians to do what is right and productive, "say what is useful and uniting and implementing policies that would allow the enterprising people of the country the space, freedom and stable environment to work and prosper.“Let the thunder make its own meaningful contribution to promoting human rights, protecting individual liberty, property and the rule of law.“Let it name and shame mediocrity and incompetence, praise and encourage the upholders of integrity, political morality, selfless patriotism and competence”.He also called for the thunder to strike like lighting to expose corruption wherever its searchlight shines on one, and urged newspaper editors to be loyal and truthful to their readers.Source: New Crusading Guide/Ghana
