Some constituency executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region are allegedly registering members without authority from the party’s regional or national leadership, Kumasi-based Nhyira FM has reported. The perpetrators are said to be printing and issuing forms and cards contrary to party regulations, even before the party’s national office directed formal registration to commence. The move is believed to be part of attempts by them to win advantage in up-coming executive elections. One of the alleged culprits is a constituency chairman, who is accused of printing about 5000 membership forms for the registration.A memo dated 2 September 2009, and signed by NPP General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow, to all constituencies directs party officials to commence compilation of a list of card-bearing members from 10th to 20 September, 2009.The perpetrators of the illegal act are said to have started their operation last August.Checks reveal they are compiling for about five different polling stations contrary to party’s directive that each polling station’s list should be compiled by its own executives.A source at the national headquarters of the party describes the act as illegal, and says the allegations will be investigated.Story by Ohemeng Tawiah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
