Sacked National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme says he will not contest government for terminating his contract prematurely.Michael Nsowah had a contract running until July, 2010 but was handed his dismissal letter last Friday with no reasons attached.Indeed, Local Government Minister, Yieleh Chireh told Joy News’ Sammy Darko, Mr Nsowah did nothing wrong, but he has to leave for another person to take over his position.Mr. Nsowah, he maintained is not the only capable person for the job.Debatable as the contract termination may be, the former Ghana Education Service boss said he has no interest in contesting government.Such an action he contended will direct attention to himself, rather than the laudable programme- the School Feeding Programme, he had taken oversight responsibility over, for more than a year.He promised to leave a comprehensive handing over notes to his successor, which when followed will ensure a smooth implementation of the programme, which is to provide basic school children with hot meals at school. He was happy for bringing the programme back on track, in spite of continued allegations of corruption, graft and conflict of interest which according to the Deputy Local Government Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah was rearing its ugly head in the programme’s implementation.Even before government appoints a successor to Mr. Nsowah, the raging tension between new and old caterers over who had the rights to prepare the food for the children does not appear to end anytime soon.Checks by Joy News reporters to the few selected schools under the programme show the children had either been left to ‘starve’ because there is a court injunction, banning two contesting caterers from cooking food until an amicable solution is reached.Yet in other schools the food is prepared by two caterers, leaving the school authorities with the difficult decision to choose which of them had been accredited by the School Feeding secretariat and whose food the children must consume.
