There will certainly be mixed and ill feelings if King Ayisoba does not win an award from his three nominations he received at the 8th Ghana Music Awards Festival 2007 this year.
For an artiste who now tops the BBC World Music Charts riding high on the no. 1 spot he needs not to worry but count on the votes from the public.
King Ayisoba was in his hometown when we conducted this interview with his executive producer, the well known Panji.
“That is his chances are very good because his song can be identified easily. You would find Ayisoba’s song on every phone as a ringtone. You would find ‘I Want To See My Father’ in the home of the rich man, poor man, hustler, he is everywhere”.
What are the chances of King Ayisoba nabbing three awards? “King Ayisoba is in a league of his own. He is in a strong position but if it’s left to the public to vote, he would have won all awards hands down.
Below is what Panji thinks of King Ayisoba’s fellow nominees in the ‘Artiste of the Year’ category.
- Ofori’ Amponsah’s ‘Emmanuella’ could not achieve what ‘Otoolege’ achieved. Ofori has outdone ‘Otoolege’ with ‘Emmanuella’.
- Samini – Samini also stands a chance with King Ayisoba
- Praye, Lord Kenya and Wutah are far behind.
- Obrafour - Obrafour made a big impact on the music industry.
- Kwaku Gyasi – I have not personally heard Kweku Gyasi’s song so and I do not want to comment on it but have heard good reviews about him.
Panji rounds up that the competition is really between King Ayisoba, Ofori Amponsah, Obrafour and Kweku Gyasi.
Panji continues to say that he will also be astonished if King Ayisoba does not gun down an award especially the ‘Discovery of the year’.
Panji has promised to help move the industry forward with King Ayisoba and that we should expect more Ghanaian stuff from Pidgin Music.
