NDC youth in the Weija constituency in Accra have demanded the immediate appointment of one Solomon Nii Afutu as the regional coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).That, they say, is the only panacea to the raging conflict between the youth in the area and the national leaders of the party.They argue, Solomon Afutu was promised the position by the party’s General Secretary, Asiedu Nketiah prior to the December election, but the position has rather been given to one Nii Ashie More after the election.They had early on threatened to hit the streets in protest of the party’s failure to appoint their constituency leader, but that did not happen. Rather they walked out of a meeting with the National Coordinator of the NYEP, Abuga Pele after discussions appeared to have hit a snag on Monday.Ben Bello, spokesperson of the youth told Joy News there will be no further meetings with the party leadership without any concrete measures to appoint Nii Afutu.“All the explanations they are telling us is bogus,” he said, stressing the only condition for peace in the constituency will be to go according to the agreement entered into before the election.Ben Bello said they will boycott another meeting with the Employment Minister scheduled for Tuesday.On the contrary, the National coordinator Abuga Pele said the meeting with the aggrieved youth was successful.He said the information to appoint Nii Afutu as the Regional coordinator of NYEP came rather belated, a time when Nii Ashie More had already been appointed.
