The Member of Parliament for Subin, Mr Isaac Osei has formally declared his intention to run for the flag-bearership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).The former Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD and one time Commissioner for the United Kingdom told Luv News’ Elton John Brobbey he is the best candidate to bring the party back to power.“I have the opportunity and will make myself available in competitive elections and hopefully I will win,” he said.He is counting on his wealth of experience attained as a civil servant, diplomat and legislator to win the position. He said his decision to contest was as a result of comprehensive consultation with the rank and file of the party in addition to a groundswell of support from the party members.Isaac Osei, 58 will however contend with a strong challenge from the 2008, flag-bearer of the party, Nana Akuffo-Addo and Alan Kyeremanteng, both of who appear to be front runners, a situation Mr. Osei is well aware of.“I am confident and mindful some people may well be in the lead, having been in the race before and if they choose to run again,” he said, but was confident of victory. He expressed regret over the failure of the NPP to retain power citing the monumental achievements chalked up by the Kufuor-led administration but attributed the defeat to poor handling of issues during the campaign. He said the country deserves a better government, far more than the Mills administration is offering and called on the rank and file to work hard to ensure the party comes back to power in 2012.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
