Fifteen 15 students of the Sunyani Polytechnic Chapter of Nkoranza Students Union have decided to assist teachers in the area to prepare final year JSS students for the Basic Education Certificate Examination next month.
Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, District Director of Education, told the Ghana News Agency he was impressed with the interest of the students to help improve the standard of education in the area.
He recalled a similar gesture by some members of the union in tertiary institutions who undertook sensitization programmes and educated parents on the importance of education, which had a great impact on the education of the youth.
The District Director commended the students for their voluntary spirit and called on heads of schools and parents to support and encourage the students.
Mr. Agyemang Badu advised the final year students to be disciplined and to respect the voluntary teachers to motivate them to give of their best.
The District Director said some schools had been selected for the exercise, including the Roman Catholic J55, Anglican JSS, Local Authority 'Po: and 'B' JS5, St. Theresa's JSS, SDA JSS and Girls Model JS5, all in Nkoranza and Sessiman JSS.
Others are Nkoranza Methodist JSS, Abuontam JSS, Bodom JSS, Kranka Local Authority, Akuma JSS and Donkro Nkwanta JSS.
Mr. Agyemang Badu appealed to the voluntary student-teachers to carry out their duties in a disciplined manner and to live above reproach.
He urged other students in the districts to emulate the Nkoranza Students Union.
