Last Friday, hundreds of worshippers, primarily Methodists, defied the rains to celebrate the Church’s 180th anniversary at the National Theatre under the theme: ‘Methodism was born in song’.
The event was in two sessions and it showcased the colourful diversity in the worship music of the Methodist Church Ghana.
There was sterling performances from The Church Choir, Accra Diocesan Singing Band, Sekondi Christ’s Little band and the Brigade. The world-class event also produced very inspirational moments from Alfred Patrick Addaquay, the one-man orchestra, The Harmonious Chorale of ‘Oye’ fame and Nii Okai, all products of the Church, who ministered with great skill and grace.

Commenting on the event, Rt Rev Dr. Kwaku Asamoah Okyere, the Administrative Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, said
“Methodism was indeed born in song, and this well produced choral festival is proof that this is a heritage worth preserving. I trust that we can effectively pass on this rich music heritage to the next generation. God bless all for making the anniversary memorable so far and I urge all not to miss out on any of the other events. T-shirts, base ball caps and other paraphernalia are available in our Societies and at the Methodist Church Ghana Head Office.”

The Church has outlined a series of activities to commemorate its 180th anniversary among which includes METHOFEST in Sunyani from July 16-19, a float on July 25, a what-do-you-know competition LIVE on Sunday, July 26th on GTV and Radio Ghana, and a mammoth Thanksgiving Service at the Black Star Square on Sunday, August 2, 2015.
The Connexional Planning Committee is also planning a Mega Thanksgiving Praise Night to be hosted by an 800-man Methodist Youth Mass Choir on Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 5pm to 9pm also at the Black Star Square in collaboration with God’s Family Music Ministries.
