Former Minister of State in-charge of Fisheries under the Kufuor administration, Ishmael Ashitey, has been elected Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region.
He takes over from Mr Sammy Crabbe who managed the party’s regional affairs over the last four years.
Amongst those who challenged Mr Ashitey to the position were Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, George Isaac Amoo, Ayikoi Otoo and Emmanuel Adjei Boye.
The new chairman in his acceptance speech thanked all the aspirants and promised to work with both the old and new executives to achieve success for the party in the 2012 national elections.
Other executives elected include Divine Otoo Ablorh, First Vice Chairman and Gladys Dede, Second Vice-Chairperson. The incumbent Secretary, Alex Quartey, lost out to Muhammad Adjei Sowah whilst the position of Treasurer went to Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah. Albert Boakye Okyere is the new Organizing Secretary, Nana Owusu Foudjour, Youth Organizer and Joyce Zimparee, Women’s Organizer.
