A Kumasi-based legal practitioner is calling on the Ashanti Regional Police Command to arrest and prosecute the Regional Minister over his recent statement urging supporters of the ruling NDC to descend heavily on their political opponents who taunt them.
Lawyer Owusu Afriyie, who is vying for the General Secretary position of the main opposition NPP says the regional minister’s statement is an indictment on President Mills’s administration.
Mr. Kofi Poku Manu, who by virtue of his position is also the head of the Regional Security Council, has come under serious criticisms within a short while over his incitement on party supporters to ruthlessly deal with persons on the other side of the political divide who criticize the NDC government.
Though the regional minister has apologized for his comment, Owusu Afriyie insists punitive action should be taken against him.
Lawyer Owusu Afriyie in an interview with Nhyira Dwaso Nsem’s host Kofi Asante Ennin said the minister after failing to champion the region’s development is inflaming what he describes as an ‘unnecessary tension’ within political opponents in the region.
He believes his dismissal will serve as a deterrent to other ministers in the Mills administration to mind their language.
Owusu Afriyie noted that residence have lost the confidence they reposed in the minister and his removal would help foster unity in the region.
