Government will soon hound and prosecute murderers of the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah has assured.According to him, government has begun thorough investigations into the murder and will soon bring the perpetrators to book.“All lovers and seekers of justice will be deeply impressed,” he told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoe on Wednesday.He was reacting to comments by Nana Obiri Boahene, former minister of state under the Kufuor administration, who says the needless politicization of the Dagbon crisis has made it a lot difficult for a solution to be reached.Okudzeto Ablakwah explained that the crisis is pretty much a political issue, the same way armed robbery, food security or any other issue is.Any government he stressed must be keen on providing justice when any form of murder is committed, irrespective of who is suspected to be behind it.Acknowledging the difficulties in unmasking the perpetrators behind the 2002 murder of the Ya-Na and 29 others, the deputy minister said time lapse can affect the gathering of evidence.He would not have critics accuse government of delays in bringing the perpetrators to book, saying any such demands are unfair and unrealistic, especially when the previous government could not solve the problem in six years.He accused the Kufuor government for preferring wrong charges against the two suspects recommended for prosecution by the Wuako commission and described as inconclusive the legal proceedings against the two.He faulted the then government for failing to appeal the decision to its logical conclusion.“The NPP has a record of appealing cases,” he said, citing the case of the constitutionality of the fast track court which went as far as the review after the Supreme Court had adjudicated against the state.Failure to appeal the case gave credence to a perception that the then government had no political will to prosecute the matter, he sniped.Okudzeto Ablakwah said the Atta Mills government has done a lot since being sworn into office “but in matters of criminal investigation you don’t go public until you are ready to strike.”“Thorough investigations are being done, we are not sleeping on this issue,” he said.
