Ghanaian entrepreneurs who participated in the maiden edition of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) have set for themselves the ambitious target of creating 10 million jobs in the country in a period of 10 years.
This they hope would curb the high rate of unemployment in the country.
The entrepreneurs underwent three-month training and are receiving funding to equip them with basic skills to launch and run their businesses.
“Tony Elumelu’s vision is to create 100,000 jobs, we want to create 10 million jobs in 10 years”, President of the Ghana Branch of TEEP, Sheila Osei Boakye told JOY BUSINESS when she, together with some of the beneficiaries paid a working visit to UBA, Ghana.
She told Joy Business’ Daryl Kwawu, they feel empowered after the training they received to go all out.
Usman Isiaka, Deputy Managing Director of UBA, which is owned by Tony Elumelu received the Ghanaian entrepreneurs.
He emphasized the need for more entrepreneurs to be raised saying it was key to the continent’s development.
Mr. Isiaka also encouraged the entrepreneurs to walk in the steps of Tony Elumelu in order to be successful.
He expressed UBA’s willingness to support young entrepreneurs and urged them to access the bank’s collateral-free loan facility.
“The loan is based exclusively on the turnover you recorded in your business in the last six months. Based on that turnover, the bank can give you a certain percentage of that amount as a loan”, Mr Isiaka said.
