The death of Alhaji Ibrahim Dansoho Tahir, the Sarkin (Chief) Zongo of Kumasi and the entire Ashanti Region, occurred in Kumasi last Sunday. He was 72.
The late Sarkin Zongo was buried that same day, January 17, according to Islamic injunctions.
The solemn burial prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque were conducted by the National Chief Imam, Shehu Osman Sharubutu, with thousands of Moslem faithful in attendance.
The late Alhaji Dansoho, who was a well known traditional bone doctor, a practice which runs through the family, will be remembered for his campaign against religious fanatism and for tolerance, the promotion of peace among all religious groups and the promotion of Islamic education through the establishment of the Asem lslamic Junior High School, with support from the Libyan World Islamic Call Society and the establishment of the Ashanti Muslim Education Fund.
The third day prayers were held at his Aboabo residence last Tuesday, while the final funeral prayers (ADUA) for the late Sarkin Zongo, who reigned from May7, 2000, would be held at the Kumasi Central Mosque on Saturday, January 30, 2010 during which a new Zongo chief will be installed.
He left behind two wives, 14 children and 31 grandchildren.
