The Deputy Minister of Environment Science and Technology, Dr Omane Boamah, has described as hypocritical, criticisms of the CPP presidential candidate for the 2008 general elections, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, on the reshuffle of some members of parliament.He said Dr Nduom has failed to show consistency in his argument in the case.Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom has in a statement noted that President Mills’ decision to appoint the three leaders on the majority side of Parliament (Alban S. Bagbin, Majority Leader, E.T. Mensah and John Tia) as members of his administration indicated that the Executive has control over Parliament.Other members of the public including those in opposition criticized the president when he announced that the above mentioned members of parliament have been moved to occupy certain positions in government.According to Dr Boamah, the president did not evade the legitimacy and sovereignty of parliament by the reshuffle he did and that whatever happened was as a result of miscommunication.He questioned why Dr Nduom should have any problem with the reshuffle of the three gentlemen since he (Nduom) has himself been moved from parliament into the government of the past regime.“I have difficulty appreciating the merit [in his argument]. He was a CPP parliamentarian when ex-president Kufuor appointed him…At the time, didn’t he appreciate the need for parliament to be independent? Or is he now an apostle of the independence of parliamentary democracy?” he asked.Dr Boamah, who was speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme Monday, accused Dr Nduom of making his argument because he is not a beneficiary of such an appointment and that “it is disheartening because it gives politics a bad name”."Where is his consistency when he is trying to ask Alban Bagbin to rescind the decision of accepting his appointment as the minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing while he (Nduom) as a legislator accepted a similar appointment…”He added that the reshuffling of some parliamentarians into the executive does not defeat the independence of “our parliament as he is trying to preach”.
