Clashes at the Obuasi constituency meeting by members of the opposition New Patriotic Party left three injured with serious machete wounds.The clashes were triggered by a misunderstanding over who should chair the meeting.Some of the members of the party in the constituency insisted Joseph Kojo Boampong had no locus to chair the meeting because the constituency election that brought him into office as chairman was flawed and illegal.Another group discounted the claims arguing Mr Boampong was lawfully elected.This led to a misunderstanding between the two factions, with hired thugs inflicting machete wounds on three members of the party in the constituency. Faustina Boadu, one of the victims narrated the incident to Joy News: “Many people came there and Boampong had already taken his seat intending to chair the meeting. One of the members protested that he can’t chair the meeting because the elections were not properly conducted. There was misunderstanding and through that, one Solomon Anim and two others were wounded by the former chief executive.”He said one of the injured sustained multiple wounds on his head, adding, the case has since been reported to the police.The Obuasi constituency branch of the NPP has seen little peace following a disputed election held late last year.Nineteen members of the constituency council of elders resigned en bloc accusing national chairman Peter Mac Manu of interfering with the elections.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
