Ghana is set to receive more than half of the expected donor inflows into the country this year.
According to some documents cited by Joy Business, about 330 million dollars have been released out of the expected 500 million dollars.
So far the EU has released about US$ 180 million and the World Bank has disbursed US$ 150 million, while the African Development Bank is set to release around US$50 million in September.
Additional disbursements from bilateral donors during the remainder of the year will bring total program financing close to US$ 500 million.
According some analysts, the disbursement by the donor partners are critical. Their decision to hold on to these funds earlier this year nearly crippled the economy.
The donor partners had raised some concerns with the management of the economy then.
They maintained that, unless Ghana signs up to an IMF program, about 1 billion dollars that government was expecting over the next 18 months, to support infrastructural projects in the budget will not be released.
The decision by the partners to now release the funds, could also encourage other private firms and multinationals, who hitherto were not prepared to bring in their capital because of similar concerns about the economy.
The move will bring about the confidence in the economy that government was looking forward to, and as well, improve the amount of dollars in circulation, which could go a long way to help stabilize the Ghana cedi.
