A group calling itself the Concerned Patriots of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is unhappy with arrangements the party is making towards its national delegates congress. The congress comes off on 27 February, and according to the group, although the party has a record of good leadership and organisation, there are a few issues that the national executive has to explain to supporters prior to the congress. The group’s concerns were carried in a press statement released on Monday. However, National Organizer Lord Commey says the party has already put enough measures in place to ensure a successful conference.Read the full press statement hereWe the Concerned Patriots of the NPP appreciate the effort of our party towards fortifying democratic processes of our country. It is obvious that over the years, our party have had very competent leadership as well as organizing credible congresses. Today again, our party is at the verge of organizing another congress slated on the 27th of this month. We are intrigued with a few concerns as far as the organization of the upcoming Congress is concerned. We would like the leadership of our party to come out and tell the party members and the sympathizers how the party will successfully organize the youth, women and national congress within one day and at a particular place. The leadership of the party should explain to us how they intend to hold the said elections for the various groups. In any case the group will not side with the idea that;• The grounds (Baba Yara Stadium) is going to be divided into areas and sections for each group--Youth, Women and National Congress. This is because the very delegates that will be voting for Youth and Women Congress will as well as vote at the National Congress. This we believe will jeopardize decision making, meanwhile the election should be free and fair, reflecting an exercise that determines greatly the fortunes of the party in the 2012 general elections should not be done under pressure.• If we are voting group after the other ,all in one day, it means therefore that delegates are going to vote under intense stress ,tidiness and disaffection which will still have serious repercussions on the outcome of the results of the elections. The effect is still to the disadvantage of our party.• Finally, if all delegates should queue for a one time vote for all aspirants without rehearsal and proper education on such type of vote, then one can imagine the chaos, confusion and friction at a particular moment. Again, this we believe will give a comparative advantage somewhere to some candidates. The group is suggesting that the Youth and the Women Congress should be organized a day before the National Congress. The delegates for these two groups are around one thousand, two hundred (1 200).Any medium church/hall/Congress hall in Kumasi can hold this congress at a very meagre cost. This will spare the maligning and foreseeable confusion ahead. We as a party should desist from actions and inactions that will affect the name of our great party. We the CONCERNED PATRIOTS will resist any person or group of persons that will attempt to bring the name of the party to disrepute as far as the upcoming election is concerned.Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
