Ex-President Jerry Rawlings has asked for God’s forgiveness for Nana Darkwa, the 27-year-old New Patriotic Party activist whose claim that Rawlings burnt his own house in the Valentine's Day inferno is currently before the courts. The former president described Nana Darkwa’s remark as “unfortunate” especially when the fire outbreak led to the destruction of very precious items and wondered whether he could have set his residence on fire to destroy his own property.Rawlings made the remarks Monday when National Democratic Congress executives of Ayawaso East constituency in Accra, led by the MP for the area, Dr. Mustafa Ahmed, and some supporters of the party called on the former president and his family to express their sympathy to the former first family whose Ridge residence was gutted by fire on February 14, 2010.While thanking the delegation for their show of love, sympathy and concern to him and his family, Ex-President Rawlings called on president Mills and his government to sit up and fight all negative practices which do not promote development in the country.
