The flag bearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the 2008 elections says President Mills has so far shown no commitment to fulfilling the pledges he made to change the way issues are tackled in Ghana.Dr. Nduom says nothing has changed since President Mills came to power because Ghanaians continue to suffer under policies that are inconsistent with the social democratic principles of the ruling party.Speaking to Joy News after addressing the media at what he described as the last in the series of ‘Agenda for Social Change’ media briefings, Dr Nduom said there are key areas the President has to tackle.Dr Nduom expects President Mills to touch on some key areas he believes require urgent change if Ghanaians are to live to enjoy economic prosperity. These include the economy, the need for a national development agenda, an effective policy on oil and gas as well as a strong commitment to the successful execution of the national identification project. He cited Chapter six of the 1992 Constitution which according to him contains the directive principles of state policy, “and if you go in there, it gives a prescription of what the president and the administration must do. Whether it’s health, education, the economy, employment; all of it is there. So the President must take his cue from there and tell us what he’s done in those areas and what he will do in those areas and follow the instruction of the Constitution by coming back and telling us....every year on how he’s accomplished what he said he was going to do.”On what he said is required to spur the growth of businesses in the country, Dr Nduom said the President must immediately earmark a GH¢250-million stimulus package to be distributed through the banks to industries in the country as has happened in other countries. He also spoke about the need to ensure the security of pensioners’ end-of-service benefits as defined in the new Pension Law.Source: Myjoyonline.com/ghana
