President John Mills has expressed profound hope and confidence in the Black Stars as they compete in football’s ultimate prize in South Africa in June.
He said the performance of the Stars in the just ended Nations Cup in Angola, should evoke and strengthen a high sense of belief in Ghanaians and the country.
Addressing Members of Parliament in his second state of the nation address, the president stated; “I made a commitment to take a different political path to strengthen belief in ourselves and in our dear nation; the kind of belief exemplified by those gallant players of the Black Stars who made us proud in the African Cup of Nations final in Angola.
"I am confident they will reach for the stars at the World Cup tournament in South Africa in June this year."
He also paid tribute to the Black Satellites who won the U-20 World Cup against Brazil last October, despite playing a man less in the final match as well as the local Black Stars who won silver in the maiden CHAN tournament.
He said Ghana Football is on the ascendancy and charged all Ghanaians to emulate the footballers by imbibing the spirit of self confidence in all their endeavours.
