Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has launched a stinging attack on President John Mills and the National Democratic Congress, describing their tenure as a tale of broken promises.
Addressing over four thousand delegates of the party in their national delegates conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu made references to a number of scenarios to buttress his points.
“The track record of the current NDC administration is a catalogue of failed and broken promises and a betrayal of trust. Prof Mills promised to reduce fuel prices drastically; he ended up rather increasing them drastically.
“Prof Mills promised a better Ghana where people will have employment; today he tells us that he is awaiting a blue print of employment creation from the ministries in June this year.
“…he promised money in the pocket of Ghanaians and only the day before yesterday he said he never promised any such thing.
“The NDC rejected the representation of the people’s amendment bill at best and organised press conferences and demonstration against the bill; today Prof Mills said they did not oppose the bill. One wonders whether we have woken up to find ourselves in a different planet,” he quizzed.
Instead of a lean government, President Mills appointed not less than 75 ministers and deputy ministers- a number which the minority leader said was fairly huge and bigger than the 65 appointees in the first term of the ex-president Kufuor’s administration.
He said it is incumbent on the NPP to close their ranks and ensure peace and unity at all levels in order to win back power in 2012.
The national conference is expected to elect new officers to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
