The Committee for Joint Action has asked the government to import emergency power plants as a quick solution to the current energy crisis.
The pressure group has also asked that the 80 megawatts generating sets imported by mining companies in the country should be made operational immediately.
The Committee was addressing a news conference to announce suggestions it believed government should implement to help resolve the current energy crisis.
A leading member of the group, Mr. Ato Ahwoi also asked government to provide adequate resources to the Volta River Authority to enable it complete the construction and installation of its 126 megawatts thermal plant at Tema.
Mr. Ahwoi said government should make it a priority to concentrate on short term measures to provide urgent solutions to the crisis.
He stressed that there was an urgent need for government to separate long term needs from short term ones and it was also crucial that the government would not seek to give false hopes to the people where there was no hope.
Mr. Ahwoi said the government needed to channel a lot more effort towards energy conservation by the populace.
Another leading member of the CJA, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr. asked government to avoid arrogance and pay attention to the proposals put forward by the Committee.
He said all the proposals the group was offering had been available to government all this while but for arrogance, it had failed to utilize them.
“If you have a government with this arrogant attitude, if you have a government that thinks that it has it all and that what all the different sections of the society say, it is impossible to have a cooperate national effort which resolves major crisis such as the energy crisis, I have a piece of advise for this administration: this country does not belong to the NPP.”
