A Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, has described as mischievous claims that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) lied its way into power.He said the deliberate attempt to create the impression that the party did not think through thoroughly the onetime premium and that time is catching up with them is absolutely fallacious.According to him, there are many promises contained in the party’s manifesto – increasing the capitation grant, free uniforms and books, improvements in the agricultural sector- that has been fulfilled.He was reacting to controversies surrounding Deputy Health Minister, Rojo Mettle Nunoo's presentation to parliament on the one-time premium of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).Rojo Nunoo told parliament Wednesday that implementing the onetime premium will be too expensive, costing as much as GH¢678 per adult.Subsequently, Health Minister Dr Benjamin Kumbour described his deputy’s pronouncements as misleading because government has not taken any such position.Insisting he did nothing wrong, Rojo Nunoo told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Thursday that he informed Parliament the presentation was just one of several options available to government.Mr Ablakwa, who was speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Friday, said the onetime premium as contained in the NDC manifesto is achievable but the ‘corrosive corruption’ the government came to meet in the NHIS is posing a major challenge.He claimed that the NHIS was just another ‘milking cup’ of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and that some past officials have built mansions throughout the country out of the scheme.He urged all Ghanaians to take it easy on Rojo Nunoo because he is not the first government official to have goofed.Nana Akomea, who was a co-panelist on the programme, thought the ‘public slapping’ of the deputy health minister could erode him of his self-confidence.He adviced Dr Kumbour to be diplomatic in the way he deals with his deputy in order not to strain the relationship between them.
