Ghanaians have been urged to resist the temptation to look outside the country for economic salvation. The Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Patience Quaye, has reminded Ghanaians that it is possible to make an economic breakthrough in the country. She was speaking at a sensitisation seminar for worshipers at the Taifa branch of the Fountain Gate Chapel in Accra organized by RECFAM, a non-governmental organisation working to ensure safe migration, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs (MOWAC). DSP Quaye said the attraction of greener pastures and better quality of life outside Ghana was in most cases a seductive illusion. She cautioned against human trafficking, telling the church members that while she was a Christian, she would ensure that any of them who offended the human trafficking laws of the country faced the full rigours of the law. To apprise the worshipers with hazards of irregular migration, DSP Quaye recounted cases in which people who were financially sound in Ghana allowed themselves to be tricked into selling their assets in order to pursue greener pastures abroad. Such people, she noted either lost their lives, got imprisoned or came back to Ghana, disappointed, dejected and frustrated.
