The Deputy Local Government Minister is the latest to receive threats on his life from some youth of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Yendi.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah incurred the wrath of the irate youth with his vociferous condemnation of their declaration of the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) persona non grata.
The youth threatened to kill Mr Imoro Hudu Walvis if he was not removed from office. They accused him of sowing seeds of division in the party and taking unilateral decisions. He was whisked away by the security agencies in the face of the threats. He is believed to be hiding in an undisclosed location in Tamale currently while efforts are being made to douse the flames and pave the way for his return.
Responding to the threats, Mr Afriyie Ankrah, who is also a former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, said the conduct of the youth was objectionable, embarrassing, disappointing and had no place in a civilized society.
But the youth, angered by his stance and pronouncements, have dared him to come to Yendi if he is a man.
"I've received some text messages saying that I called for their arrest and therefore if I am a man I should come to Yendi but I am not really perturbed [because] I spoke the truth, I spoke out of conviction and I stand by every single word that I said, under no circumstance should we countenance people threatening the life of an MCE and I will not compromise on that," Mr Afriyie Ankrah said.
The Deputy Local Government Minister said he will notify the security agencies about the threat, emphasizing he was not interested in making a fuss about it because the threat is an empty one.
