Police have arrested four supporters of the National Democratic Congress who locked up offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme Office in the Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa in the Central Region.The irate youth took over the office Thursday morning, accusing the scheme manager, Mr Owusu Appiah of engaging in corrupt practices.Noah Kwesi Mens, Deputy Constituency Organizer of the NDC and a leader of the group had early on told Myjoyonline.com their action was the result of frustration and the seeming inaction by the authorities to address the systemic corruption in the scheme’s implementation.The youth then handed the keys of the offices to the District Police Commander but were arrested in the process, Joy News correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko confirmed.The four were then sent to the office of the regional police commander who ordered that they be processed for court.Their arrest comes only days after a district police commander in Yendi shirked his responsibility to arrest a group of lawless NDC sympathizers who threatened to take the life of the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) over allegations he is corrupt.His excuse was that the action was too political to effect an arrest fearing his job might be on the line if he did so.But government spokespersons as well as the police high command have condemned his position, reiterating the police's constitutional duty to maintain law and order.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
