Mr. Bismark Tawiah-Boateng, Eastern Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has condemned the behaviour and confrontational actions of some youth groups in the country, calling themselves "foot soldiers of the party".
He appealed to the leadership of the party "to put its feet down" and check the open and clandestine activities of the so-called foot soldiers because it was assuming an alarming proportion.
The criticism was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Tawiah-Boateng and made available to GNA at Koforidua.
The NDC Regional Organizer warned that if activities of the foot soldiers were not checked, "we should not be surprised to be awakened by a dawn broadcast one day that the so-called foot soldiers have dismissed the President and taken over the administration of the country".
Mr. Tawiah-Boateng said that although the 1992 Constitution of Ghana guarantees freedom of association and speech, it equally frowned on negative activities of any individual or groups such as the untoward behaviour of the so-called foot soldiers.
He said the group calling itself "the foot-soldiers" of the NDC and creating problems all over the country is not known in the operating document or NDC constitution.
Mr. Tawiah-Boateng asked any high ranking member of the NDC who is encouraging the foot soldiers to stop those activities because "they are buying weapons for our opponents whose nuzzles will surely be turned on us in the 2012 campaign".
He said President Evans Atta Mills needed the support of all NDC members to pursue the "better Ghana agenda" to the benefit of Ghanaians.
Mr. Tawiah-Boateng advised the youth to remain calm and cooperate with their respective Municipal and District Chief Executives for the realization of the mandate given to the NDC.
