Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, an aspiring flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Monday said the party's chances of winning the 2012 elections depended on who was elected as the flag-bearer.
Addressing polling station executives at Agona-Nkwanta and Tadisco Down near Takoradi, he said polling assistants should carefully weigh the merits of candidates for the flag-bearship and vote for the right person to lead the party to victory.
Nana Akufo-Addo said; "You have the power to decide the future direction of the party as the flag-bearer would be democratically elected and not declared".
He said the issue of unity in the party after election of the flag-bearer was important and all factions in the party should unite and rally behind the flag-bearer to deliver the goods.
Nana Akufo-Addo, who was the party's flag-bearer in the 2008 elections, said he was capable of ensuring resounding victory for the NPP, having been narrowly defeated by President Atta-Mills in the last elections.
He said the NPP programme for national development was valid and the party still stood by the pledges it made during the 2008 elections.
Nana Akufo-Addo said if the party regained power, the school feeding programme would be extended to all districts while the National Youth Employment Programme and the National Health Insurance Scheme would be improved.
