An Accra circuit court hearing the trial of New Patriotic Party sympathizer Nana Darkwa – who accused former president Rawlings of burning his own house – was forced to adjourn proceedings Thursday because state prosecutors say they have lost contact with the investigator.
Nana Darkwa is standing trial for alleging that the former president deliberately burnt his own house.
State prosecutors simply told the trial judge they cannot find the investigator of the case, forcing the judge to adjourn the case to 28 May, 2010.
Meanwhile the Ghana News Agency reports two persons were arrested for entering the court premises with knives, apparently to cause violence.
Nana Darkwa caused a stir when he said, during a panel discussion on an Accra-based radio station, that the former president torched his Ridge residence so the President would give him a new one.
Aide to Mr Rawlings, Kofi Adams, unhappy with the comment, effected the arrest of the NPP supporter but the Minority in Parliament said Mr Adam’s action was an anathema to free speech.
Following the development, the Minority boycotted Parliament to push for the release of the 27-year-old.
However, its decision was short-lived as lawyers for Nana Darkwa were able to secure a bail for him.
