Police say they have arrested a man who kidnapped a 3-year old, using her as a bargaining chip to demand money he invested with a microfinance company.
According to the police, the girl was found at Nkronza SHS after the suspect, Eric Opoku, was lured to disclose the location.
Eric took the 3-year-old hostage on Sunday around 3pm after enduring frustrating and fruitless attempts to retrieve his investments from the child's father, Daddy Brown of Jerryson FM.
The radio station is owned by the founder of Jarstar Motors and Investment Company where Eric Opoku made his investments.
“He was so peeved that he wanted to teach him a lesson to get his money back,” police told Joy News Monday.
Jarstar Motors and Investment Company had run a scheme promising a 50% profit on monies deposited for two months.
Three branches of the company in the Bono Ahafo region were closed down in August 2015 after facing liquidity challenges.
Alarmed clients of the company in their hundreds on Monday morning stormed the radio station to demand their money. Some of them were wielding cutlasses and showed aggressive behavior while on the premises.
Police came in to disperse the mob and close down the station.
At least five frustrated clients have been arrested and the 23-yer old man suspected of kidnapping is being prepared for court.
Meanwhile, a meeting called by the Nkoranza MCE ended abruptly as disappointed clients of the company vowed to retrieve their monies.
