The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has denied claims that government has neglected victims of a blast at a former quarry site at Paebo, near Nsawam.

According to the Head of Relief at NADMO, Gavivina Tamakloe, they had to assess the situation before they could come up with items to help the victims.

His comments follow allegations made by the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri that NADMO has neglected the victims of the blast.

In an interview with Joy News, the MP said “Beyond the assessment done, no relief items have been given to the victims.” He petitioned President Mahama over the issue.

More than 2,000 residents were rendered homeless following explosion which occurred at a disused quarry site in the Eastern Region on 24^th December, 2015. Three people were said to have died in the incident.

The acting IGP, John Kudalor, the Deputy Interior Minister James Agalga, accompanied by the Eastern Regional Minister,  Antwi Boasiako Sekyere were in the area to sympathize with the victims.

NADMO on Wednesday morning donated items worth, GH È» 120,000.00 to the victims after the MP’s petition. The items included planks and aluminium roofing sheets.

Receiving the items on behalf of the victims, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Ben Ayeh said, “government is seriously aware of what is going on and is taking the needed steps to ameliorate the situation.”

He alleged that the MP has been 'jumping from one radio station to the other...throwing dust into the public's eye."

“…The MP needs to be called to order…this is not the time to make political capital out of a situations like this.”
