For four weeks, Joy News investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has been pursuing the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu for an interview.
Manasseh who broke the GYEEDA scandal that led to the reforms and renaming of the agency as the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is investigating current happenings in the organization.
Haruna Iddrisu, whose ministry now presides over the YEA postponed the interview a number of times before finally agreeing to speak to Manasseh on January 5, 2016.
“These are good questions. If I knew these were the questions, I wouldn’t be running away from you,” Haruna Iddrisu remarked shortly before the interview began.
Even though, Manasseh had given him areas long before the interview, he asked that Manasseh write the questions for him before the interview started. When he answered the first question and called for the next question, Manasseh followed up with a question on the budget of the YEA, which the ministry is alleged to have added a contingent liability and another provision of GHc2million.
Haruna Iddrisu initially denied that the ministry revised or added anything to the budget submitted to the Ministry by YEA. When Manasseh pushed on that issue, he ended the interview with the excuse that it was “getting murkier.” Watch this video of how it all happened.
