Reports reaching Adomonline.com indicate that a raging fire is sweeping through the Achimota Forest.

Adom News’ Nana Araba Nancy reports from the scene that Fire Service officials, the Police and volunteers are battling to bring the fire under control but are being hampered by the high winds accompanying the dry harmattan.

The fire is said to to be spreading towards the Achimota Police Station and the buildings close to it.

Most affected are the area close to the Greater Accra Regional offices of the Forestry Commission.

Among others, the forest area also has facilities for the Ghana Girl Guides Society and prayer centres for a number of religious faiths.

This is the latest in a string of fires reported in recent times, across the country.
