The Ghana National Fire Service says recent fires recorded at parts of the country since the beginning of this year are minor outbreaks peculiar to the Harmattan season.

The Kumasi Metropolis for instance has recorded a number of fires this year, notable among them are infernos that ravaged the Roman Hill, Kumasi Central Market and the latest outbreak at a slum in the Ashanti Region over the weekend.

 The fire at the slum destroyed about 200 makeshift structures serving as homes to settlers at Dagomba Line in Kumasi.

There have been other fires in some parts of the country.

However, the Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Dr Albert Brown Gaisie, told Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor the fire outbreaks are minor per the categorization of the service.

He was speaking to media personnel after inspecting the scene of the Dagomba Line slum fires.

“Based on our record, we are on top of the situation. We are full on top of the situation. The fact that there are minor fires doesn’t mean there is upsurge in fires. Every Harmattan season because of the unfavourable humid conditions because of the ecological imbalances [there is] a susceptibility of fire,” Dr Gaisie said.

He also advised against negligence that can fire outbreaks.
