Immediate past Ghana Boxing Authority President, Moses Foh-Amoaning has expressed disappointment in the training programme given to the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup finals in South Africa.
According to him, going into such a prestigious tournament as the World Cup, a team needs a massive preparatory programme which he believes plays an important role in the team’s performance during the tournament.
He said that, “we might have the best players in the squad but if we don’t prepare well we will not go anywhere in the tournament”.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s sports morning show on Wednesday after the Stars were thrashed 4:1 by Holland in an international friendly on Tuesday, Mr. Foh-Amoaning declared that, “we couldn’t’ have played Holland after playing Appiah eleven and Gyan eleven to a team that have been in camp for over thirteen days and have played three high profile matches”.
“Clearly we are not serious about what we are doing and in our next warm up game against Latvia on Saturday I’m sure there is not going to be any difference as to the one we saw against Holland yesterday. We cannot play only two matches to prepare the team for the tournament” he intimated.
He added that the players couldn’t perform because the training programme of the Dutch is far better than that of the Black Stars.
“Nobody should blame the players but the planning of the training programme for the team is very poor and if it happens like this it will affect the confidence of the players. I believe when they are put through a good training schedule they will deliver beyond the expectations of Ghanaians.
“I am just hoping they will win their match against Latvia to boost their confidence” he told Asempa Morning Sports host Moses Antwi-Benefo alias “PJ Mosaic”.
He saidnthere will be the need to play another match after Latvia on Saturday before we play Serbia because the more you play the more the players build cohesion and their physical condition which will really help the team in the tournament.
