The Kaneshie Magistrate Court has remanded British citizen, Arthur Simpson-Kent in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI).
The murder suspect was arrested in the Western Region after he fled the United Kingdom to Ghana. He is linked with the murder of his girlfriend, Sian Blake and her two sons.
They were found buried at the backyard of the home they shared with the suspects as partners at Erith in South East London.
Joy News' Joseph Opoku Gapko was in court and reports that lawyer for Arthur Simpson-Kent is against the court’s decision to remand him.
Justice Srem Sai argued that security agencies have breached his client’s human rights and the extradition Act 1960 by denying him the right to counsel and not securing an arrest warrant from a local court.
Since this was not done, the lawyer believes an illegality has been committed against his client and demanded that his client be discharged but the court declined the request.
"We are dissatisfied with everything that has been done in court...you can’t put something on nothing and expect it to stand.
“If the arrest is improper, then the detention, remand and everything that follows should be reconsidered," counsel for the accused said.
However, the Principal State Attorney explained that events unfolded very fast between when the British authorities alerted them about the presence of the accused in the country and his subsequent arrest.
This mad it difficult for them to go through all the mentioned processes, which is why they needed more time and decliend the lawyer's request for his client to be discharged.
He is to reappear on January 26, 2016.
Dressed in a grey round neck shirt Arhtur Simpson Kent had a very calm demeanour. He hardly spoke and when the magistrate asked him whether or not he was being treated well in the custody of the BNI, he responded with a nod, Joseph reports.
