Some drivers and passengers at Akim -Swedru in the Eastern Region have expressed disappointment in government for its failure to rehabilitate roads in the District.
Joy News Eastern Region correspondent Haruna Yussif Wumpini reports that the abandoned cocoa roads in the Districts have claimed many lives in the past through road accidents.
Akim Swedru is predominantly a farming community in the Birim South District of the region with about 97 per cent of the farmers in cocoa farming.

Residents of the districts have accused government of sidelining the Akim -Swedru community in the area in terms of development and this is hindering the progress of the District.
The drivers say their vehicles are no longer in good condition because of the poor roads and it costs them huge sums of monies in repairing the vehicles.
“It is difficult for cocoa farmers to bring their produce home since drivers don't want to ply these roads due to the bad nature of the roads,” some agitated cocoa farmers said.

The residents have appealed to government and Birim South District Assembly to urgently consider rehabilitation works of the cocoa roads in the area.
Speaking to Joy News, the Member of Parliament for Akim -Swedru Constituency, Kennedy Osei Nyarko blamed government for the deteriorating nature of roads in the constituency.

“It is very shameful to see a cocoa growing community not benefiting from the cocoa road fund which the president himself promise will be used to rehabilitate all the cocoa roads in the country.” he stated.
