Two people within the NDC are courting business people and mobilising funds to challenge President John Atta Mills in the 2012 general elections.One is said to be in the castle whilst the other is a high ranking member of the party.This was disclosed by Herbert Mensah, a close associate to the Rawlingses in an interview with Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah on Wednesday.The football administrator and business man failed to mention the names of the personalities except to say that “time will tell.” “There are two people one of who works at the castle and the other one is a very senior member in the political mix who have been seconding and seeking favours and monetary donations from business folks openly for that campaign. And I think time will tell,” he revealed.He said the two are keeping the cards to their chest partly because they do not have the “status” or “brand name” to cause a major stir with the declaration and are perhaps building a groundswell of support before coming out.President Mills has not hidden his ambitions to go for a second term but with less than two years into his first term, reports have been rife about possible heirs, with fingers pointing at ex-first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.But Mr. Mensah said he his surprised with the reports of the former first lady’s supposed presidential ambitions because she has not made any public declaration to that effect.He was however quick to add that Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has an unblemished credential to vie for the position having been championing the rights of women issues for several years.Mr. Mensah was however convinced that it is not politically prudent to have anybody in the NDC challenge president Mills in the 2012 elections.“It is a commonsense statement that it will be unfortunate for people to run against the sitting president.
